Put it in the Basket (Part Two)
Put it in the Basket (Part Two)
As I was finding great relief handing my worries over to the One who has ALL control, I became curious as to why the image of a "basket." I did some research with the help of a few Bible verses and commentaries. I was awestruck by what I learned.
In Psalm 81:6, we read, "I have removed the burdens from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket." I sat stunned. God sees the heavy burdens we shoulder. He sees that we struggle to release our troubles and instead, we add to them, making the basket heavier and more burdensome. Our sorrows grow as we trudge along, white-knuckling our basket. Sometimes, we pick up a second basket along the way, adding to it, more troubles. How does anyone expect to find their God-given joy when they are carrying these multiple burdens everywhere they go?
The Oxford Dictionary defines burden as: A load, typically a heavy one; A duty or misfortune that causes worry, hardship, or distress.
During the Israelites bondage to slavery in Egypt, many slaves carried heavy baskets filled with clay to make bricks. These baskets were carried on the backs or shoulders of the Israelites.
In Egypt, "burdens" or baskets filled with clay bricks, were positioned upon the shoulder, either simply held with both hands, or distributed between two shoulders by means of a yoke.

God does not want us carrying these burdens wherever we go. He wants to set our hands free! Trust that He knows exactly what to do with your burdens. If they are legitimate troubles, He is just the One to intervene with solutions. If your troubles are falsehoods, He's more than eager to dump them out, decreasing your load.
